I will number each mystery sound on this page so that folks can indicate which sound they believe they can identify.
Sound 01 was sent to me with the following description: We walked right into a group of the birds one late afternoon. ... large but not quite as big as a crow or pigeon. They are black with a lighter color under the wings, with yellow beaks. We live in South Boston, within 75 yards of the Boston Harbor, by Castle Island and Carson Beach. As I've said before, they emit this short and sharp whistle which sounds like a person trying to get your attention. Once in a while the sound is a slight bit lower in pitch and longer in duration. During one part of this minute long recording, there are a bunch of the birds and one gets a chorus of them trailing off down the street.

In your e-mail, be sure to indicate where and when you recorded the sound, and any other details that might help others to come up with an accurate identification.
